Off the CUFF – Cleanin’ Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters

The Calgary Underground Film Festival’s Off the CUFF presentation this October is showing Cleanin’ Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters, a documentary about the making of the original Ghostbusters movie. Off the CUFF is hosted throughout the year and provides the Festival to show movies that didn’t fit with their festival schedules. This screening provides the perfect opportunity to not only get in the Halloween spirit but celebrate the filming of the new movie in Calgary. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 a person or $8 for students, seniors, and CUFF members.

 

Spanish Film Festival

Where: Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW)

When: October 8 – 29, 2019

Enjoy a screening of one of the many movies featured during the 2019 Spanish Film Festival, which includes a line-up of films like The Realm and Love Beat. The films being screened are all-new Spanish films that have been popular at the box office and critically acclaimed. This festival will also be held in Ottawa and Toronto, so be sure to check out the line-ups specific to Calgary, which will be screened at Globe Cinema. A schedule of the movies can be found online. The 1938 International Amateur Movie Show: A Reconstruction

Where: Contemporary Calgary (701 11 Street SW)

When: October 10, 2019

This event will partially-recreate an amateur movie show that was originally presented at Columbia University in 1938. Films from different countries around the world were submitted to this original show from amateur filmmakers, and now the Amateur Movie Database Project as collected some of these films to be screened at this event. Tickets can be purchased online for $10, with a discounted rate available for CSIF and Contemporary Calgary members. Please note that this is a licensed event and drinks will be available for purchase.

 

HEX: After Dark Film Festival

Where: BMO Centre (Stampede Park – 20 Roundup Way SE)

When: October 11 – 14, 2019

During the HEX: Halloween and Entertainment Expo, stop by the “Screaming Room” for screenings of fantasy, science fiction, horror and Halloween films presented by HEX and the After Dark Film Festival. From Friday to Monday, a variety of independent films will be screened throughout each day. These films are from a variety of countries, and a full schedule of when they will be playing is available online. Admission to the Screaming Room is free with the purchase of a ticket to the HEX Expo, which is $30 for a general one-day admission. Additional ticket packages and discounts are available to purchase here. HEX will feature a variety of different activities and exhibitors throughout the four-day event, including a revival of the popular ScreamFest haunted houses, escape rooms, main stage shows, and more.

 

12 Hour Halloween Movie Marathon

Where: Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave SW)

When: October 26 – 27

The Calgary Underground Film Festival will once again be hosting an all-night movie marathon of popular Halloween and horror films. The event will run from 7:00 in the evening to 7:00 in the morning, and guests are welcome to stay for as many movies as they want. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their best costumes in order to win the evening’s costume contest, and everyone will be eligible to win other prizes throughout the night. Food and drinks will be available throughout the night, but please note that only cash will be accepted for the concession, which is offered through Globe Cinema. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online.
