Who ever said Valentine’s Day was just for couples? This February, Calgary will be host to a variety of events and activities that any family, individual or couple can attend. From wine pairings to winter sports, the city has something to offer everyone – all in the name of love!
For Couples
Valentine’s Day is traditionally seen as a time to celebrate with the one you love, and the city has no shortage of romantic events that will appeal to multiple interests:
Chocolate and Wine on Valentine’s Day
Where: Co-op Wine Spirits Beer – Shawnessy (250 Shawville Boulevard SE)
When: Wednesday, February 14 from 7-9 p.m.
Prepare for an evening of indulgence: Co-op Wine Spirits Beer will be pairing a selection of fine wines with gourmet chocolates from local chocolatier Epiphanie Chocolates. This event is just in time for dessert, and is a great way to end the evening off if you also have a dinner reservation or have plans to eat at home. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased here.
In the Heat of the Night
Where: Calgary Zoo (1300 Zoo Road NE)
When: Tuesday, February 13 and Wednesday, February 14 from 6 – 10:30pm
The zoo’s annual event invites guests to learn about animals and romance while enjoying live music, food and drinks. In addition to the speaker presentation, a dinner and dessert buffet, photo booths and touch tables will be available for guests. This event is for adults only, and tickets are $110.
Heartfelt Workship
Where: Avec Bistro (550 11 Avenue SW #105)
When: Saturday, February 10 from 2 – 5 p.m.
The creative minds behind Beakerhead are hosting another unique blend of science and art with a Valentine’s Day event at Avec Bistro. Guests will construct their own model of a heart out of felt under the guidance of an artist and physiology professor. During this activity, guests will learn about the science of the heart. After, chefs from the restaurant will prepare snacks, appetizers and cocktails for guests to enjoy before they leave. Tickets are $89, but this event is only open to 20 people, so be sure to book your tickets as soon as possible!
Spa day
Where: Riverside Spa, Serene Escapes, Relaxing Wellness, VMediSpa
If you’re unable to attend a scheduled event, you can always make one on your own by planning out a spa experience! Many spas and wellness centres around the city offer special promotions and packages for individuals and couples like massages, pedicures and other treatments.
For people who may be busy on Valentine’s Day, another option could be to purchase a treatment or gift certificate to give as a gift. This way, couples can enjoy a treatment or experience on their own time. Give a loved one the gift of beauty and wellness from VMediSpa , a gift certificate (and a bonus gift certificate for yourself!) from The Relaxing Wellness, or a massage from your loved one’s favourite spa.
For Families
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with everyone you love! Instead of leaving your children home, consider bringing them along to these family-friendly events:
