This Family Day weekend take part in the spirit of the holiday and spend time with your family and friends at one of the many activities and events taking place around the city. From free outdoor event to special activities at popular attractions, there are many activities you and your family can participate in whatever the weather may be. Read below to learn more about a few of the events that will be taking place.
Where: Heritage Park (1900 Heritage Dr SW)
When: Thursday, February 14 – Monday, February 18, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: Museum admission ($11.00 – Adult | $5.70 – Child + parking)
The rest of the park may be closed, but Heritage Park’s Gasoline Alley Museum is still open, and will host a day of activities for families to celebrate the Family Day weekend. Guests will be able to look around the museum and take part in a special adventure. Families will be invited to build a racer and compete against one another on their special downhill strip. The museum will have various parts that people will be able to use to put a vehicle together, which they will be able to take home with them.
Where: Lougheed House (707 – 13 Ave SW)
When: Saturday, February 16, 2019, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
This one-day outdoor festival is open for all ages. Everyone is welcome to come and watch as community curling teams compete in an outdoor tournament for their chance to win 1915 Brewer’s Trophy Cup. In addition to the main sporting event, there will also be food, drinks and music at Lougheed House, as well as a beer garden, outdoor fire pits, event stage, kid zone and more. There is also a free family curling zone where guests will be able to try out the sport for themselves!
Where: Granary Road (226066 112th St West MD of Foothills, AB)
When: Saturday & Sunday, February 16 – 17, 2019, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Cost: Free
Located just outside Calgary, Granary Road is hosting a family-friendly festival over the Family Day weekend. Activities will include raffle prizes, skating, tobogganing, and treats. Guests will be able to visit the market and purchase goods from a variety of local vendors. Though the park is closed for the season, there will still be farm animals and wagon rides available.
Where: Eau Claire Market (200 Barclay Parade SW #202)
When: Monday, February 18, 2019, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
Bring your family down to Eau Claire Market for a day of fun activities like crafts, games and face painting. There will also be live entertainment for kids like a magician and interactive reptile display. This free event is open for children of all ages, and families are welcome to come down at any time during the afternoon to take part in the events and view the market shops.
Where: Calgary Zoo (210 St. George’s Drive NE)
When: Daily at 11:00 a.m.
Cost: Zoo admission ($27.95 – Adult | $19.95 – Children/Youth + parking)
From January to March, guests at the Calgary Zoo will have the opportunity to take part in the penguins’ daily walk at 11:00 a.m. every day. Each day, the colony goes for a walk around the zoo during the winter and visitors are welcome to participate. However, this activity is only offered depending on the weather of that day, so those interested are encouraged to stay up to date by checking the zoo website and social media pages. Over the Family Day weekend, visit the zoo to take part in this unique activity and see the rest of the exhibits and attractions at the zoo. Visitors will only have until March 31 to participate in this activity.
