On Sunday, May 13, we honour the woman in our lives – our mothers, grandmothers, step-mothers, aunts, sisters and everyone who plays an important part in our life. To celebrate all they do for us, there are a variety of unique events happening around Calgary. From brewery tours to art projects to a classic high tea, there are a lot of activities taking place next weekend!

Beer lovers

The Brewer’s Apprentice is teaming up with Pretty Sweet Bakeshop to host a unique event this Mother’s Day! This two-hour tasting will feature a selection of eight different beers from The Brewer’s Apprentice as well as eight different doughnut pairings from Pretty Sweet Bakeshop. A guide will take guests through the different brews and bakes throughout the afternoon.  Tickets are available here for $40 a person.

Fashionistas

Deerfoot Meadows Optometry is hosting an event in preparation for Mother’s Day. This free event will take place on the Friday night before Mother’s Day, and feature a selection of eyewear, clothes and accessories from fashion boutique Seven Saints. Attendees will also be treated to tea and treats after the show.

When: Friday, May 10, 2018, 5:00 – 10:00 p.m.

The Vin Room is also hosting a fashion show event, but this event will take place over a three course brunch! The restaurant is teaming up with Apt 22 to showcase stylish clothing and accessories while guests can enjoy food like gluten free muffins, quiche, cheesecake. Cocktails and wine pairings will accompany the courses.

Tickets are $60 for adults and $30 for children 12 years and younger. Included in the price of the tickets is the meal, adult beverages, show and a gift bag with goods from The Spa Ritual, Dry Cleaning by Dave, Vin Room and Doodle Dogs. This event is popular and there is limited seating available, so be sure to book your tickets as soon as possible!

Artists
 
The Youth Empowerment Program from Fiesta Filipino is putting on a painting event for children and their mothers during the Mother’s Day weekend. Two artists will assist attendees during a two-hour workshop while they use their creativity and skills to create a special gift for their mothers. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks and water. This event is free, but those interested must still register here.

Tea and treats
 
Enjoying high tea with pastries is a popular Mother’s Day past time, and this year Alora Boutique is partnering with Brassiere Kensington to support the Louise Dean School for young and expecting mothers. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will go to the school. Food includes desserts like chocolate mousse and coconut macaroons, a selection of scones and savory dishes like bacon and deviled eggs and herb marinated prawns. A variety of tea will also be available, and there are options for people with allergy concerns. This event is also kid-friendly. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased here until May 11.

Aspen Crossing is hosting a very special event perfect for children – high tea on a train with princesses! The train will depart from the Aspen Crossing station in the afternoon, and provide guests with tea, snacks, a performance from the princesses and a meet and great session. Tickets are $80 for adults and $75 for children and can be purchased online here. This is a popular event so don’t delay purchasing your tickets.
